CNN has given Kathy Griffin the boot

CNN has given comedian Kathy Griffin the boot. Griffin got herself in some hot water after she tweeted a photo of herself, smiling while holding an image of Donald Trump’s bloodied, severed head.

According to TMZ , Griffin and photographer Tyler Fields made light of the image.

The two reportedly made a comment about having to leave the country once the photo was released.

Although Griffin and Fields have not left the country, the backlash against the two was swift and came from both sides of the aisle.

Chelsea Clinton tweeted that there’s never a time to “joke about killing the president-or anyone.”

2012 Republican Presidential Nominee Mitt Romney tweeted that Kathy Griffin’s photo placed her into “an even more repugnant and vile territory” that descends further into the depths of ugliness than the political ugliness the American people are currently witnessing.

Griffin tried tempering down the backlash by apologizing. In a video posted to Twitter, the comedian said, “I’m a comic. I cross the line. I move the line then I cross it. I went way too far.”

The “I’m a comic” excuse didn’t work. There are rules that even comics must abide by and one of those rules is that you don’t joke about killing the president of the United States.

On Tuesday, during CNN’s “Don Lemon Tonight,” host Don Lemon expressed what many at Kathy Griffin’s former employer were thinking.

Lemon told his audience, “There is no excuse for what she did. It was inappropriate. It was gross.”

Kathy Griffin’s fellow comic, Dan Obeidallah, told Don Lemon that he was glad she apologized but he believes the damage she inflicted upon herself will take quite a while to undo.
